The Prophecy Fulfilled Every Year Since Humans Could Communicate
Matthew 24:6-8 is quoted by Adventists regularly to "prove" we're in End Times. Here, I show it's been fulfilled nearly every year since forever. This week's image = typical SDA prophecy advertising.
Ever since I was a kid, this prophecy was played on Adventist TV (Three Angels Broadcasting Network, or 3ABN). Usually with a solemn dude’s deep announcer voice, with ominous music, and scary news images flashing on the screen. And it was printed in bold colors over shittily Photoshopped images designed to disturb. See: The random image of a genuine Adventist prophecy seminar advertising I included in the start of this post. And it was quoted by Ellen White, the Adventist plagiarizing prophetess, Doug Bachelor the Adventist high-school dropout evangelizing con-artist grifter, every pastor ever preaching any End Times Are Coming sermon, and some random speaker at Young Disciple Magazine bible camp when I attended in the 90s.
That guy took a chart from the internets of globally recorded earthquakes. The number of recorded earthquakes rises directly in correlation to the invention and specialization of earthquake detecting devices—the seismometer. The more seismometers on the planet, the more earthquakes get detected. The guy who showed us how many earthquakes happen decided to omit this crucial factor. Instead, we impressionable middle school aged kids stared at a chart of numbers of earthquakes per year, noted the number went up more over time, and felt gut-wrenching terror over this faux proof that End Times is coming real soon.
I was probably around age eight when I was made to memorize these verses. I was taught by my Sabbath School teachers, fine salt-of-the-earth crafting giving humans with whom I still am contact with, how these verses are a fulfilled prophecy and how God will be coming very very soon, probably in my lifetime, but first Adventists will be tortured by Catholics in The Time of Trouble. These verses always struck terror in my heart and were part of what gave me my second dream.
Anyways, let's get prophecy debunking.
Matthew 24:6-8 is a little chunk of Jesus’s sermon from the Mount of Olives. Here is the NIV version:
“You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.”
I was made to memorize these verses in the King James Version. I was taught the NIV version is Satanic because it omits verses, and my entire church was scandalized circa early 90s when the Adventist church decided to use the NIV version in its children’s magazines.
Let's break this prophecy down. Here's what we need for this ominous thing to come true in one calendar year:
1. "Wars". Plural. At least two wars, unspecified size so could be like...two tiny tribal nations fighting. Literally just two wars somewhere on the planet sometime in a 365 day time span, and this part of prophecy is fulfilled. Fortunately, the numbers of battle deaths are sharply declining since WW2, but Adventists won’t mention this. https://ourworldindata.org/war-and-peace#global-war-deaths-between-1400-and-today-the-size-of-the-bubble-shows-the-percentage-of-world-population-killed-the-hague-centre-for-strategic-studiesref
2. "Rumors of wars". Rumors. Plural. So two people somewhere on the planet have to tell another human they expect a war. Pretty sure this has been fulfilled every year humans have been able to communicate.
3. "Nation will rise against nation." This is just a repeat of condition 1.
4. "Kingdom against kingdom." This is another repeat of condition 1.
5. "There shall be famines." Two famines of unspecified size anywhere on the planet in a calendar year. This sadly happens many, many years.
6. "And pestilences." Ok, that's two, I am guessing, outbreaks of disease or insects or frogs (I'm looking at you, Egyptian plagues.). Any size. Anywhere on the planet. This happens more often than not in the years prior to antibiotics and germ theory.
7. "And earthquakes in diverse places." So two earthquakes, of any size, anywhere on the planet, in diverse places so... Not in the same spot. Also realize, the count of earthquakes has gone waay up ever since science folks have been using science contraptions to track all the global earthquakes since 1918, see Wikipedia’s International Seismological Centre, which has recorded global earthquakes since 1918. So this has undoubtedly been fulfilled every year since 1918, and most likely every damn year since forever because earthquakes, little and big, are not very uncommon.
To sum up, to fulfill this prophecy in one calendar year, we need anywhere on the globe, of any size:
* Two wars.
* Two rumors of wars.
* Two famines.
* Two pestilences.
* Two earthquakes.
Pretty sure this has been fulfilled nearly every year before *and* after Jesus made this vague as fuck "prophecy".
